UK - Creating Tomorrow


Liz Calder visits India
 
Liz Calder, Publishing Director Bloomsbury Publishing and the publisher of the highly successful Harry Potter series and Louis Baum, children’s writer-editor India visit.

Liz Calder and Louis Baum are going to be in India from 19 to 25 May as part of the Spread the Word series under the Creative Future programme. During their visit they will be visiting Delhi and Kolkata.

British Council in association with Penguin Books India present a session where Liz Calder will speak about the discovery of J K Rowling, the author of Harry Potter series and the Harry Potter phenomena in the British Council Library. Open for all Harry Potter readers.

British Council in association with Penguin Books India present Master Class by Liz Calder for young individuals (18-35 years) from the publishing industry.

The Master Class will be divided into 3 sessions of 40 minutes each where Liz Calder will speak about:
  • Her journey - from working with various publishing houses in the UK to setting up Bloomsbury Publishing. This session will be chaired by Jaya Bhattacharji, Publisher and Editor Zubaan.
  • Building of a list, the discovery of JK Rowling. This session will be chaired by V K Karthika, Editor Penguin Books India.
  • Establishing of Parati International Literature Festival in Brazil. Louis Baum, children’s writer and editor who is also on Parati International Literature Festival will join in on this session with Liz. This session will be chaired by Pavan Varma, Director General ICCR (to be confirmed)
The session is followed by lunch.

Session with women in publishing in association with WIP, which is housed in Zubaan.

British Council in association with Women in Publishing, which is presently housed in Zubaan present a session with Liz Calder where she will interact with women working in the publishing sector. This session will be chaired by Ritu Menon, Publisher Women Unlimited. The other speakers in the session are Indira Chandrashekar, Omita Goyal, VK Karthika, Urvashi Butalia, Sunita Paul, Paro Anand, Chandra Chari, Sunanda Ghosh.

The session is followed by lunch.
